In Nigeria, over 31.8 million people face acute food shortages, worsened by inflation, insecurity, and climate shocks. Rural women supply most staple foods but often lack access to tools, training, and finance. This project will equip 500 women farmers with seeds, tools, nutrition training, and small grants to plant nutrient-rich crops and improve post-harvest handling. Helping them grow food will boost household nutrition, income, and community resilience.
In Nigeria, 33.1 million people are projected to face food insecurity in the next lean season, and over 5 million children and their mothers are at risk of acute malnutrition. Rural women produce most staple foods, yet they lack access to quality seeds, tools, finance, and training. Without this help, families go hungry, and children suffer undernourishment. This threatens both health and local food supply.
We will equip 500 women farmers with improved seed varieties, essential hand tools, nutrition training, and small grants via local cooperative groups. Workshops will teach planting techniques, crop selection, and safe storage. Grants will offset costs for seeds, fertiliser, or transport. Local mentors will support application in fields. These activities aim to boost yield, improve food quality, and increase income.
Supported women will achieve better harvests, stronger crop diversity, and higher income. Families will enjoy improved access to nutritious food and fewer cases of malnutrition. As success spreads, other women will adopt these methods. In later stages, local markets may grow and community resilience will strengthen. The project will show that small investments in women farmers can reduce hunger and support lasting rural wellbeing.
