Rural Women Farmers Lack Tools to Grow Enough Food

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the Boost Food Security for 500 Rural Women in Nigeria project. Your generosity reflects concern for families struggling with food shortages. At this moment, the contributions received are still too limited to begin distributing seeds, tools, and grants to the women selected for the program.

Across many rural communities in Nigeria, families face growing food insecurity. Rising prices, climate shocks, and insecurity have made it difficult for households to produce or purchase enough food. Reports indicate that millions of Nigerians may face food shortages during the next lean season. Children and mothers are among the most affected, with many at risk of malnutrition.

Rural women play a major role in producing staple foods for their families and local markets. Despite their efforts, many lack access to improved seeds, farming tools, and small financial support that could increase their harvests. Without these resources, crop yields remain low and families struggle to maintain steady food supplies throughout the year.

This project aims to support 500 rural women farmers with improved seed varieties, essential farming tools, nutrition education, and small grants. Training sessions will guide participants on planting methods, crop selection, and safe storage practices. Community mentors will also help women apply what they learn directly in their farms.

With better tools and training, women farmers can increase food production and diversify crops. Stronger harvests can improve household nutrition and provide extra produce that may be sold in local markets, helping families earn income.

While the support received so far shows encouraging interest, more resources are required before distribution and training activities can begin. We continue to welcome further assistance so that these women farmers can receive the tools and knowledge needed to strengthen food production in their communities.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
