Summary

Drought in Zimbabwe has rendered Harvesters' Agriculture Program, which supports the Feeding Program, unsustainable. By drilling a borehole and installing a water tank, Harvesters can continue and expand the Agriculture Program. Last year a ton of maize was harvested to supplement the Feeding Program (provides a meal for 80-100 children daily). With a reliable water supply, Harvesters can move toward self-sustainablility by diversifying crops for program use and revenue generation.

Challenge

Drought in Zimbabwe has rendered Harvesters' Agriculture Program unsustainable. Last year the Agriculture program harvested a ton of maize which supplemented the Feeding Program (provides a meal for 80-100 children daily). Without a reliable water supply, Harvesters will have to scale back the Feeding Program due to lack of food resources.

Solution

By drilling a borehole and installing a water tank, Harvesters can not only maintain the Agriculture Program and provide supply for the Feeding Program, but also diversify crops.

Long-Term Impact

With a reliable water supply, Harvesters can move toward self-sustainablility. Diversifying crops will enable Harvesters to more fully supply and expand the Feeding Program. Additionally, excess crops and specialized crops can be used for revenue generation allowing Harvesters to further implement programs toward the the vision of greater community impact.
