The Dorina Foundation, in partnership with the Lego Foundation, brings to the world a toy which will help blind children towards literacy all over the globe: The Braille Bricks! Each block represents a letter in the braille alphabet. The goal is to encourage blind children to play with others and learn. But, we need your help! To be delivered for free to thousands of Brazilian schools, we need funds for logistics. We'll also give trainning to the teachers, so they can fully use the Bricks.
It is not easy to integrate a disable child into the classroom, especially when we are talking about the first steep of earlier education: literacy! Blind people need to learn in a whole different way, and for that they have a unique alphabetical system call Braille, that uses the touch of the hands to read. However, supplies of this kind are usually difficult to come by. Also, there is the issue of "what can we do to not isolate these kids?" That is when Braille Bricks Project come in!
Each block of the Braille Bricks represents a letter in the braille alphabet, recognizable by the number of dots on the top. With this configuration, the toy becomes a tool for all kids to play with. That way, the blind children become part of the classroom, participating of the leaning process with everyone else. The distribution of the material will be made free of charge for public schools around the country, and we'll offer methodological trainning for the teachers on how use it.
The project will distribute Braille Bricks kits around 2 thousand schools, benefiting even more kids than that. Also, with the tool, the Dorina Nowill Foundation will offer trainning to help teachers extract the most out of the material. It will improve their learning experience, help them interact with others students, and shine a new light on the need of new and creative ways for disabled children to learn and be included into our society.
