This project provides trauma healing for thousands of survivors of trauma and violence in Nepal. Each year, our local team trains hundreds of teachers, parents, and community leaders to become Healing Advocates, so they can disrupt cycles of trauma and violence in their families and communities. They also host a mental health podcast to break silence and stigma about mental health.
The effects of trauma can impede a survivor's ability to focus in school, care for children, have healthy relationships, earn an income, and live a productive life. Worse yet, the impacts transfer from person to person, and generation to generation - fueling fear, hate, oppression, and violence in our families, communities, and institutions.
We are building the capacity of local communities to heal trauma by equipping leaders with skills in counseling, emotional first aid, and advocacy skills to break cycles of harm. Our first Healing Hub was launched in Nepal in 2019. This project will help us provide mental health education to leaders across the country, so they can support survivors of poverty, disaster, violence, and abuse, to heal and unlock their potential to become Healing Advocates and community leaders.
Long-term effect will be a decrease in symptoms of trauma at the individual and collective level - thereby disrupting cycles of trauma and harm to self and others. Survivors will gain tools to transform from victims to self-empowered leaders. Given the ripple effect of healing trauma, we aim to train over 1,000 teachers and other community leaders per year, who will then support 30,000 survivors to heal and transform their lives.
