Crime is a reality in South Africa and affects us all. Every night over fifty thousand young people in South Africa, between the ages of 14 and 24, are sleeping in a prison or secure care centre. The President's Award for Youth empowerment (TPA) is working hard towards Breaking the Cycle of Crime in South Africa, by encouraging the youth to participate in the Award Programme. Breaking the cycle of crime (BCC) is an event that takes place yearly to raise awareness of crime & its effects on youth
Crime is a reality in South Africa and affects us all. Every night over fifty thousand young people in South Africa, between the ages of 14 and 24, are sleeping in a prison or secure care centre. The Western Cape is a key crime area for youth, with gangs having turned their attention to schools. Gang violence and robbery are rife and drug merchants can be found in many schools. The Western Cape Province has the highest rate of alcohol and drug abuse which lead to crime.
The first Breaking the cycle of crime event was held in 2015. Due to the success of this event we want to do it annually to raise awareness. This is the only cycle trip in the world where incarcerated youth cycle alongside free citizen youth and adults. Research has shown that the campaign leads to reduction and prevention of violence & crimes ; reduced re-offending ; improved health and well-being ; change in behavior and attitudes of youth that we engage with. .
By partnering and funding Breaking the Cycle of crime in SA our young people's efforts to become law abiding citizens in South Africa will come to fruition and our country will show a growth in job creation with lesser youth taking to drug addiction and alcoholism and less youth ending up in prisons. We need to constantly promote this programme and create awareness in order to make a change in our country. In this way the economy strives.
