Helping More Mothers Breastfeed with Confidence

By Claudia Peschiutta | AMC Communications Director

Since this project was launched earlier this year, Action for Mothers and Children has continued working to make reliable breastfeeding information and guidance more accessible to mothers across Kosovo.

From one-on-one guidance for nursing mothers to support from trained nurses and midwives through our Mothers’ Classes, breastfeeding is a central part of AMC’s work.

During World Breastfeeding Week, August 1–7, AMC released a seven-part video series answering frequently asked questions on topics including positioning, latching and milk supply, while our Mothers’ Classes placed a special focus on breastfeeding education and awareness.

AMC also opened a new Mothers’ Classes room within the Neonatology Clinic in Prishtina. Breastfeeding can be particularly challenging when a newborn requires intensive or specialized care, and mothers may be navigating stress, uncertainty and separation from their babies. The new space provides a dedicated environment where mothers can receive information and guidance during this especially difficult time.

In Fushë Kosovë, AMC expanded Mothers’ Classes to a second location following specialized training for 11 nurses and midwives. At the entrance of Family Medicine Center 2, AMC also unveiled a new breastfeeding mural by Kosovo artist Ermira Murati, known as Orange Girl. Featuring a mother breastfeeding her infant, the mural helps make breastfeeding more visible in the community and encourages supportive environments for mothers and babies. It is the second breastfeeding mural created by Murati in cooperation with AMC, following the first unveiled in Prishtina in 2025.

World Breastfeeding Week activities also received broad media coverage in Kosovo, helping breastfeeding information and messages of support reach audiences beyond AMC’s programs and social media channels.

The project has raised $1,020 toward its $1,170 goal through GlobalGiving. We are grateful to every donor helping us give mothers access to practical, trustworthy breastfeeding information and the guidance they need to make informed choices for themselves and their babies.
