When Ty’Chell connected with Latin American Youth Center, she was navigating housing instability while working hard to stay enrolled in school and plan for her future. Like many young people experiencing homelessness, she was balancing immediate survival needs with long-term goals, often without consistent support or certainty about where she would sleep next.
Through LAYC’s drop-in center and case management services, Ty’Chell received hot meals, a safe place to go during the day, and guidance from staff who helped her access housing support and essential resources. During a period when other funding sources were limited or delayed, Bridge the Gap support ensured that Ty’Chell remained connected to services and did not lose critical stabilization assistance.
Because she was able to stay housed and supported, Ty’Chell could focus on her health, education, and future planning rather than returning to crisis mode. Her experience reflects the purpose of Bridge the Gap: preventing short-term funding gaps from becoming long-term setbacks, and ensuring that young people have the stability they need to move forward with confidence and dignity.
