Right now, funding delays and cuts are putting homeless youth at risk of losing shelter, food, and critical support. Latin American Youth Center's Bridge the Gap campaign ensures that 100 homeless and runaway youth in Washington DC can access emergency housing, meals, and case management while longer term funding is secured.
Youth homelessness in Washington DC remains widespread and undercounted. Many young people lack stable housing, food, and supportive adults. Funding delays and cuts worsen this crisis by creating gaps in shelter, meals, and case management. When funds fall short, youth risk returning to the streets. Dozens of youth are currently waiting for housing support through LAYC.
This project supports LAYC's Bridge the Gap campaign, providing flexible funding when other resources are delayed or unavailable. Funds cover emergency shelter, meals, outreach supplies, eviction prevention, and case management so youth can stay safe and connected to services while long term funding is secured.
By bridging funding gaps, this project will help at least 100 youth exit homelessness and avoid prolonged instability. Youth who remain connected to services are more likely to secure stable housing, pursue education or employment, and build long-term self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on emergency systems.
