3. CHUNHUI CARE HOME PROGRAM STORY

Hao Nan is a 10-year-old boy suffering from ureteral malformation and bladder stones. When he first came to Shanghai Chunhui Care Home, he was reluctant to communicate with others. Although Chunhui Mama tried her best to encourage him to play with others, Hao Nan showed little interest on that. Due to Hao Nan's illness,he often suffered from stomachaches and cried uncontrollably. During these moments, Chunhui Mama would always stay by his side, gently massaging his abdomen and soothing him with soft words until he gradually calmed down.

A six-hour fasting was required prior Hao Nan's surgery, which was extremely challenging for the 10-year-old boy. To support him, Chunhui Mama fasted together with Hao Nan and played children's songs to ease his anxiety. When the nurse came to fetch Hao Nan to the operating room, he refused to go with her. Chunhui Mama held Hao Nan's hand and took him to the door of the operating room, reassuring that she would wait outside until the surgery ended. The surgery lasted four hours, during which Chunhui Mama stayed by the operating room door without leaving for a moment.

The day after the surgery, the doctor instructed Chunhui Mama to take Hao Nan to walk around the ward to promote the recovery of his bladder function. While Chunhui Mama was helping Hao Nan walk slowly, Hao Nan suddenly called out: "Mama." Although Hao Nan's articulation was unclear, his voice rang out loudly. The nurses turned toward him in pleasant surprise, and one of them rewarded him with two bottles of yogurt. As Hao Nan accepted the yogurt, Chunhui Mama taught him to say, "Thank you " to the nurse. With her gentle guidance, Hao Nan gradually began to speak more openly.

Right now, Hao Nan has returned to Shanghai Chunhui Care Home, awaiting his post-operative check-up. Currently, he particularly enjoys doing handcrafts with his peers. He remains deeply attached to Chunhui Mama and keeps calling out "Mama" now and then. Each time when Chunhui Mama responds, he will break into a sweet smile. We hope that Hao Nan continue to live cheerfully and enjoy the joys of childhood with the same vibrancy after recovering and returning to the orphanage.
