Cholera Outbreak in South Sudan

By Jacob Atem | Project Leader

South Sudan is facing many challenges. The floods have destoryed the crops. The Sudan crisis has resulted in about a million fleeing into South Sudan that has limited resources to help these refugees. Malnutrition is widespread across the country. Now a new crisis began last year. A cholera outbreak is threatening thousands.

"In the past one week, 2,505 new suspected cases including 300 rapid diagnostic positive cases were reported. The total number of new cholera related deaths reported during the week was 64. • From 28 September 2024 to 24 January 2025, there have been 24,418 cases including 475 deaths." A report from the World Health Organzation (WHO).

Next week I will be traveling to South Sudan to assist the medical staff in our two clinics. They have given vaccinations to the people in the camp. I will be meeting with the members of the Health Cluster, Juba University and others in the country who are working on containing this outbreak.

I am thankful for friends who come along side us and help us purchase the needed medicines and supplies. Thank you for being a blessing to the world's forgotten people,

With thankfulness for your partnership,

Jacob
