Impact Stories from Our South Sudan Clinic
Our midwife recently shared this powerful report with our U.S. team:
A mother endured a 12-hour labor at our clinic today. Both mother and baby are now in good condition and recovering well. We thank SSHCO for its continued support. God will reward you all for supporting our work and providing healthcare to families in the Mangalla IDP camp.
This is the impact of your support.
In February, our midwife, Deborah Ayor, reported 4 safe deliveries at the clinic. In addition, 26 births were assisted by trained Traditional Birth Attendants serving families across the camp, which is home to more than 40,000 people.
For many mothers, the distance to the clinic is simply too far to travel while in labor. That’s why, several years ago, SSHCO trained 10 women from within the community to provide skilled support where it is needed most. Though these women serve on a volunteer basis, they are equipped with “Mama Kits”—basic but essential supplies that help ensure safer deliveries for both mother and child.
Because of this network of care, more mothers are able to give birth safely, no matter where they live within the camp.
