Girls in Bugwere sub region in eastern Uganda are faced dire consequences of in early marriages and early pregnancies coupled with extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS and now the Covid 19 pandemic. Out 10 women 6 are child mothers. What if these girls had the chance to create a future of their choosing? This fund seeks to create capital to accelerate savings and credit scheme to support 400 teenager mothers with income boot capital credit, skills development, reproductive health and rights awareness.
Lack of access to acceptable and affordable financial services, the acute vulnerability of women in terms nutritional food insecurity, domestic violence, early marriages and climate change is creating serious consequences on human livelihood at all scale. The impact of climate change has started to create challenges and is imposing severe losses and hardships making the poorest communities in Bugwere food insecure
Bugwere women's fund seeks to invest in strategies that help vulnerbale girls and her family build back their trades and financial assets including skillfulness at managing their money responsibly and achieving better health and education outcomes for their children. This will take rethinking business venturing models, financial transfers and working to change financial markets and individual behavior so that these vulnerable women can build assets, improve their long-term security.
The standard of living for 400 marginalized girls annually will be improved, and 4400 secondary beneficiaries at ratio 1:11 members per household. This is in addition to the spillover effect on the entire community, and the environment at any time during the project cycle. Girls will be able to control of their lives and knowledge about reproductive health enhanced leading to reduction in early pregnancies and school dropouts.
