Buhaguzi Action For Rural Development Foundation(BUARDEFO ) is to build 10 wells to support 08 schools and 02 villages of Kikuube district western Uganda with safe and clean water. This will help promote sanitation preventing the spread of water born diseases, covid 19, promoting formal education and economic development in homes. The wells will be excavated manually hitting the water table. A manual hand pump shall be installed on each well. The project is anticipated to last 18 months .
Women and children in Kikuube spend hours daily fetching water from distant water sources . The rest of the vulnerable members such as the elderly, those with disabilities are unable to walk such distances thus rely on unsafe sources mainly ponds, swamps which they share with a number of domestic and wild animals risking sanitation related diseases and such communities can easily contract the Covid 19 given the limited access to safe water for hand washing. Girl child preganancy is also high.
The overall goal of the project is to improve the quality of life through promotion of hygiene and sanitation, household drinking water and hand wash at school and household level. The objectives of the project are a-To enable 18000 people in kikuube Villages access safe drinking water b. Promote sanitation at personal, community and house hold levels. c. To reduce mortality rates by reducing common diseases, water borne and sanitation related diseases. d. To promote girl child education
-There will be Massive community awareness on their fundamental right of access to safe water and sanitation -Access to safe water to over 18000 people in kikuube villages at no costs -Reduction of water/sanitation related diseases among 18000 community members -Reduced school dropout rates especially among Girls due to accessible water -Improved hygiene practices -Reduction on the burden of women who spend hours fetching water thus saving time to participate in economic activit
