We just returned from our trip to Sudan with plenty of great news! We visited the dormitory facilities at Ayak Anguei Girls' Primary School in Konbek and everything is progressing as we had hoped. We are currently in the process of acquiring bunk beds for the dorms thanks to donations we've received through donors here at Global Giving, along with a grant from The Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund. The bunk beds are being made by local Sudanese carpenters and are set to be completed before the rainy season sets in in June. We look forward to giving the girls at Ayak Anguei a dry bed to sleep on before the rain! While we have acquired some bunk beds, we are still in need of bedding for the girls.
We are so excited for the students of Ayak Anguei - this year is the graduation of the 1st P8 class at the school. For a lot of the students, this will be the first time a girl in their family has graduated and attained a P8 education. Education is so important for the future of what will become the newest nation of the world, South Sudan. As we approach the independence day, July 9th, 2011, we hope to help the country develop and move forward through the education and empowerment of the children and girls of South Sudan.
We will be attaching images of the bunk beds once we receive them from our Program Director in Sudan. Until then, we have posted images of the girls in the dormitories and in their uniforms from our most recent trip this past March.
This is an exciting and historic time for South Sudan that we are very excited to be a part of and we hope that we will be able to provide complete sets of bunk beds and bedding for all of the girls at Ayak Anguei.
