A project to erect a safe, perimeter wall around all the Maison Kimbilio homes. Our vision is that perimeter wall will act as barrier to keep the children safe, as well as maintaining good relationships with our neighbours and the community.
The land that Maison Janet Bokwa (the long-term girls house) and Maison Josue Manda (long-term boys house) are situated on has no boundary. This is the Maison Kimbilio site. Due to the expanding population of Lubumbashi, houses are now being built all around Maison Kimbilio, and there are concerns about the safety of the girls and boys in our care.
Our vision is to erect a perimeter wall to act as barrier to keep the children safe, as well as creating a feeling of transparency for the community. The wall would not block sight in and out of the grounds, allowing for a more observed but safe flow of children and visitors, as is seen in many modern children's areas such as schools.
We will have addressed real safeguarding concerns for the children and our staff members and hopefully fostered good relationships with our new neighbours. With these new clear but transparent boundaries, it is hoped that this would facilitate peace and safety for all the children and staff.
