Every time we visit Kiruru, we are reminded of just how transformative your support has been.
It is hard to believe how much has changed. Only a few years ago, children from Kiruru were walking up to ten miles each day to attend school, crossing rivers and risking attacks from wild animals along the way. For some families, the journey was simply too dangerous, meaning many children missed out on the education they deserved. Today, those same children are learning in permanent classrooms at the heart of their own community, taught by dedicated teachers in a school that continues to grow year after year.
Walking through the school during our recent visit was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community and its supporters work together. Classrooms that once existed only as a dream are now full of eager pupils. Teachers are delivering lessons in a safe learning environment, and children are able to focus on their education rather than the dangers of the journey to reach it.
The photographs from our visit tell an incredible story of progress. They capture the contrast between the original mud-built classroom that first served the community and the newer permanent buildings that are now providing a far better environment for learning. They also show that the community has not stopped looking ahead, with further classroom space continuing to take shape as resources allow.
Perhaps the most inspiring part of the visit was not the buildings themselves, but the atmosphere inside them. The excitement of the children, the dedication of the teachers and the pride shown by the local community all demonstrate that this school has become far more than a collection of classrooms. It has become the centre of the community and a place where children can begin building brighter futures.
The project continues to be owned by the people of Kiruru. Community members remain committed to maintaining the school and supporting its future development, contributing their time and skills whenever possible. Their determination gives us great confidence that the school will continue to serve children for many years to come.
While there is still more to do before the community's long-term vision is fully realised, the transformation already achieved is remarkable. Hundreds of children now have access to education much closer to home, giving them more time to learn, play and simply enjoy being children.
On behalf of everyone at Smart Villages Research Group and the people of Kiruru, thank you for making this possible. Every donation, every message of encouragement and every act of generosity has helped create opportunities that will last for generations. We look forward to sharing the next chapter of Kiruru's journey with you.
