Summary of Achievements
With the invaluable support of our Spanish partner Nous Cims and the GlobalGiving family, Jeunesse Espoir successfully completed the first phase of our project in Thieudem, SaintLouis, Senegal.
A temporary shelter was transformed into a modern school.
Six fully equipped classrooms were built.
An administrative block now supports teachers.
A school cafeteria was established to provide daily meals.
This transformation has already impacted more than 300 children, offering them a safe and dignified learning environment.
Current Challenge
Despite these achievements, the school remains exposed and insecure without a protective fence. In rural Senegal, many schools face similar challenges due to limited state resources, leaving children vulnerable and restricting access to basic services. Without secure infrastructure, the sustainability of our efforts is at risk.
We also lack sufficient resources for the supply of the school canteen before it can be autonomous.
Next Steps – Phase 2
The second phase of the project focuses on:
Constructing a protective fence around the school compound.
Developing a school garden managed by mothers of students.
Supplying the cafeteria with fresh, locally grown vegetables (piment, tomato, chou, gombo).
Teaching children about nutrition, agriculture, and sustainability through handson learning.
This initiative will ensure that every child receives a free, nutritious meal daily, directly improving health and academic performance.
Long-Term Impact
By establishing a women-led school garden and canteen, the project will:
Strengthen food security in the community.
Empower women economically and socially.
Improve children’s nutrition, attendance, and academic success.
Promote sustainable agriculture and inspire future generations to value education, health, and gender equity.
This is more than a school project—it is a community transformation model that plants seeds of lasting social and economic change.
Call to Action
We are deeply grateful to the five donors who have already joined us. With $49,751 remaining to reach our goal of $50,000, we invite the GlobalGiving family to help us complete this second phase.
Together, we can secure the school, cultivate the garden, and ensure that every child in Thieudem receives the education and nutrition they deserve.
