This project will provide practical education for women who already support births in isolated areas. Most rural births in Nigeria happen without trained help, leading to high risks. This project will construct a training centre in Ankpa LGA Kogi State, where TBAs can receive hands-on instruction, learn safe practices. The centre will fill a major gap by offering a physical place for learning, mentorship, and basic maternal care support. The Centre will produce 100 certified TBAs every year.
In many rural communities, women deliver at home without any trained help. Most rely on birth attendants who learned informally and have no access to proper facilities or instruction. These untrained attendants face childbirth emergencies with little knowledge or tools, leading to preventable deaths. The lack of training centres means there is no structured way to teach safe methods or build links with clinics.
The project will build a training centre in Ankpa LGA, Kogi State a rural and underserved community where experienced women who already assist with births can come to learn improved skills. The building will include a classroom, practice space, and basic equipment to allow practical instruction. Skilled midwives and nurses will guide the training. The facility will serve as a permanent place where rural attendants can train, refresh skills, and connect with health professionals nearby.
This school will improve how rural births are handled by creating a space for proper training. Birth attendants will learn safer ways to help mothers and how to act early in an emergency. The centre will also create steady links between informal workers and nearby clinics. In subsequent time, the project can reduce deaths from poor delivery practices and grow into a model that can be repeated in other states with similar problems.
