This project will build and equip burn care units in rural hospitals in Ghana to provide specialized treatment for patients suffering from severe burns and related injuries. Many rural health facilities lack the infrastructure, equipment, and trained personnel needed to manage burn cases effectively, leading to preventable complications and deaths. This project will improve emergency response and recovery care for vulnerable patients in underserved communities.
Burn injuries caused by household accidents, fire outbreaks, unsafe cooking methods, and electrical incidents are common in many parts of Ghana. Rural hospitals often lack dedicated burn treatment facilities, forcing patients to travel long distances for specialized care or go untreated. Delayed and inadequate treatment can result in infections, permanent disability, or death.
This project will construct and equip specialized burn care units in selected rural hospitals with essential medical equipment, treatment beds, wound care supplies, and recovery support facilities. Healthcare workers will also receive training in burn management and emergency response to improve patient outcomes and quality of care.
The project will improve survival rates, reduce complications from burn injuries, and strengthen emergency healthcare services in rural Ghana. Patients will have faster access to specialized treatment closer to their communities, reducing long-distance referrals and healthcare delays. Over time, the project will help improve trauma care capacity and save lives.
