Summary

The Kunene Elephant Education Center will establish a dedicated learning hub in Namibia's Kunene Region, where children, youth, and local communities can connect with nature and learn about desert elephant conservation. Through educational programs, hands-on activities, and community outreach, the center will foster coexistence between people and wildlife while helping protect one of Africa's most unique elephant populations for future generations.

Challenge

Northwestern Namibia is home to one of the world's last desert-adapted elephant populations. Increasing human-elephant conflict, limited conservation awareness, and a lack of environmental education threaten their future. Many children and communities in the Kunene Region have few opportunities to learn about wildlife conservation and coexistence. Without greater awareness and engagement, both local livelihoods and desert elephants remain at risk.

Solution

This project will build the Kunene Elephant Education Center, a dedicated learning hub in northwestern Namibia. The center will provide environmental education, conservation programs, school visits, and community outreach activities for children, youth, and local residents. By increasing knowledge, awareness, and engagement, the project will promote peaceful coexistence between people and desert elephants while empowering communities to become active partners in conservation.

Long-Term Impact

The Kunene Elephant Education Center will create lasting opportunities for environmental education and conservation awareness in the region. Over time, thousands of children, students, teachers, and community members will gain the knowledge and skills needed to support wildlife conservation and sustainable development. This will help reduce human-elephant conflict, strengthen local stewardship, and contribute to the long-term survival of Namibia's unique desert elephants.
