While many humanitarian orgs often focus on providing education, food and other essential components of daily life in any community. A child's right to play is often overlooked and not prioritized but is just as essential. In partnership with the power of play we will sponsor local community members to construct a playground at the epicenter of each refugee camp providing income to the community and creating a safe space for the children to play amongst the tumultuous environment they live in.
The Rohingya are a stateless minority facing ongoing persecution and violence in Myanmar. Violence against the Rohingya erupted in 2017, forcing over 700,000 to flee to Bangladesh. Now, more than 1.1 million Rohingya are living in refugee camps in Bangladesh with limited access to basic services. The Cox's bazar camp in particular being the largest refugee camp in the world. The camp holds 500,000 children an incredibly tumultuous environment to grow up in.
With the hands on approach of our partners at The Power of Play, we will be on the ground for several weeks prior to the construction itself, deepening our connection and immersion to the community we serve, while ensuring materials are sourced locally and ethically. All construction will be in accordance with the communities desires. The project will serve as a unifying endeavor, bringing people from all corners of the community together in the shared goal of inspiring hope, safety and play.
Play has a powerful healing effect on children affected by war, providing a safe space for expression & emotional release. This project will help cultivate a greater sense of home and belonging and nurturing in the camps. Additionally, being a media based org, we will provide all our partners with a media package to further amplify their mission to the world.
