Safe Toilets for Girls in Public Schools

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear supporters,

We sincerely thank those who have contributed toward the “Build Separate Toilets for Girls in Public Schools” project. Your generosity is appreciated. However, the funds received so far are not enough to begin construction. We appeal for additional support to help us roll out this project and provide safe, private facilities for girls.

Many girls in public schools currently use unsafe pit toilets or open areas. These conditions are particularly challenging during menstruation, leading to missed classes, embarrassment, infections, and, in some cases, dropping out. Without proper facilities, girls are exposed to unsafe and unhygienic conditions that prevent them from fully participating in their education.

This project will construct 50 separate toilet blocks for girls across selected schools in Kogi, Nasarawa, and Benue States. Each block will include ventilated cubicles with doors and locks, handwashing stations, covered sanitary disposal bins, and water containers. In addition, pad banks with disposable and reusable sanitary products will be provided, alongside hygiene education sessions to guide girls on using the facilities effectively.

By offering safe and private toilets, the project aims to improve school attendance, especially during menstruation, and reduce health risks linked to poor sanitation. Girls will gain confidence, feel safer at school, and focus better on their studies. Long-term, this initiative will support better hygiene habits and create a more inclusive school environment, encouraging more girls to complete their education.

Your continued support can help turn this plan into reality, giving girls the dignity, safety, and opportunities they deserve.

Best regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
