Preparation of the Fish Ponds Project 2025

By VERITE BISIMWA | Coordinator

Introduction:

The MainVEFA Foundation is an organization committed to promoting sustainable development and creating economic solutions for vulnerable communities. In this context, the project "Help to Build Sustainable Fish Ponds" has been designed to achieve several objectives, including creating local economic opportunities through sustainable aquaculture and improving food security in the North Kivu region, particularly in Nzulo.

To date, the project has not yet started, but preparation actions have already been undertaken. The Foundation has identified the appropriate site for the fish ponds and initiated steps for financing, infrastructure planning, and identifying the necessary suppliers for the project's implementation.

Project Objectives:

The main objectives of the project are as follows:
1. Create sustainable fish ponds: Promote environmentally friendly aquaculture using modern and adapted techniques.
2. Improve food security: Provide local communities with a sustainable source of animal protein and enhance their food self-sufficiency.
3. Promote professional integration: Offer employment and training opportunities in aquaculture management and related trades.
4. Stimulate the local economy: Create a market for aquatic products while supporting the growth of the regional economy.

Current Status of the Project:

1. Financing: The project has not yet raised funds. The total budget is estimated at X euros (to be defined), and the implementation of the project will depend on raising these funds by 2025.

2. Land: The MainVEFA Foundation has already secured land in Nzulo, located in the North Kivu province, where the fish ponds will be built. This site was chosen for its proximity to water resources and its potential for viable aquaculture production.

3. Suppliers: The Foundation has compiled a preliminary list of suppliers for the necessary equipment to build the ponds, including filtration systems, support structures, and suppliers for fish fry to start the aquaculture activity.

4. Partners: Several local and international partners have been identified to provide technical, logistical, and financial support for the project.

Planning and Implementation Strategy:

1. Fundraising Phase (2024-2025):
- Objective: Seek and obtain the necessary funding to implement the project.
- Actions: Launch fundraising campaigns, seek donations and grants, and collaborate with financial institutions and donors.

2. Site Preparation and Infrastructure (2025):
- Objective: Prepare the land and infrastructure needed to build the fish ponds.
- Actions: Develop the land, carry out earthworks, and begin the construction of the ponds.

3. Supply and Training (2025):
- Objective: Ensure the supply of materials and fry and train local operators in pond management.
- Actions: Finalize the supply of equipment and fry, organize training sessions for local communities on sustainable pond management.

4. Production Launch (2025-2026):
- Objective: Start aquaculture production in the ponds and organize the distribution of products.
- Actions: Launch fish production, organize sales at local markets, and initiate business partnerships.

Conclusion and Prospects:

The "Help to Build Sustainable Fish Ponds" project is in the preparation phase, with an ambitious goal of launching activities in 2025. While funding still needs to be obtained, the MainVEFA Foundation has taken significant steps to ensure the success of the project. The land is secured, suppliers have been identified, and partnerships are under development.

Once implemented, this project will have a significant impact on local communities, providing economic opportunities and contributing to the sustainability of fishing in the region. The success of the project will depend on the ability to raise the necessary funds and implement effective management of resources and infrastructure.
