Project Summary
The "Help to Build Sustainable Fish Ponds" project aims to establish a semi-intensive aquaculture system in North Kivu, with an annual fish production target of at least 10 tons. The project includes the construction of four fish ponds, the use of local labor, and the development of a complete supply chain from production to market, tailored to regional conditions. It also leverages readily available local food sources and appropriate infrastructure.
Context and Rationale
North Kivu faces a rising demand for fish, while local supply remains insufficient, threatening food security in the region. At the same time, unemployment levels remain high, especially among youth and rural communities.
This project addresses the urgent need for sustainable economic development and improved living conditions by utilizing local resources and human potential to establish a viable fish farming system.
