Summary

Imagine a child unable to enter their classroom or a patient blocked from life-saving care-this is the reality for people with mobility disabilities in Niger State. This project will construct ten durable wheelchair ramps at critical public buildings, including schools, a health center, and the local government office. These ramps will provide permanent access, independence, and dignity, enabling hundreds to participate fully in education, healthcare, and civic life.

Challenge

Millions of people with mobility impairments in Niger State face daily barriers in education, healthcare, and civic engagement. Public buildings lack ramps, leaving children, the elderly, and disabled adults isolated and dependent on others. This architectural exclusion violates basic rights, reinforces social inequality, and denies opportunities for learning, health services, and participation in government. Urgent action is needed to break this cycle of exclusion.

Solution

We will partner with local leaders to identify the ten public buildings where ramps will have the highest impact. Using local labor and materials, we will build safe, durable ramps that meet gradient standards and install handrails. We will also conduct community awareness campaigns to ensure ramps remain accessible. This approach combines practical construction with social engagement, making the project both feasible and sustainable for long-term use.

Long-Term Impact

The ramps will permanently improve access for hundreds of people, including children, the elderly, and those with temporary or permanent mobility challenges. They create a visible standard for inclusion and inspire other communities to invest in accessibility. By enabling independent education, healthcare, and civic participation, the project strengthens social equity, improves quality of life, and leaves a lasting legacy of empowerment for all residents.
