SAI operates in different parts of Uganda (semuto) through fellowship and skills training to young women/ single mothers and the youth from underprivileged villages . We encourage and support women and their families who have been affected by domestic violence and neglect. We teach women to generate income through skills and provision of training materials. Our objective is to build a vocational centre for women for purposes of mentoring ,skills training and empower them in their livelihoods .
Assessment of the Project has emphasized the multidimensional nature of poverty and vulnerability of women in semuto village.Girl -child school drop out,unwanted pregnancies ,gender inequality leading to domestic violence and HIV prevalence has left many as single mothers.Lack of basic needs (Consumption poverty),other poverty related aspects of living ;lack of productive assets,social networks and informal support systems like ill health;maternal and mortality deaths,illiteracy(50% among poor)
Teach women to read and write, empowering them to take control and be involved in decision making in their communities.Provision of hands on training like hair dressing,baking,crafts,making soap,making washable sanitary towels and textile.Train women on entrepreneurship skills on how to earn income through job creation and create networks for markets . Train women on how to save through formation of small saving groups and provision of extension services like seedlings of maize,beans and melon
SAI project will educate and train 100 women every year in skills that will provide income ,job creation and small business enterprises thus combating poverty in families,professional and career development that will lead to economic growth like good health and well being of women in semuto,reduction of maternal and mortality deaths ,promotion of gender equality ,where women leaders will go to unlock there potentials,through training and sharing skills to other women in hard to reach areas.
