Scale Up as a conflict resolution institution through Alternative Dispute Resolution ( ADR ) since its establishment has solved 17 cases of natural resource conflicts between rural communities and the government and companies. The main objectives of this program are: Increase the number of Certified mediators as the effort to resolve natural resource conflict through ADR mechanism..
Riau is the highest rank of Land conflicts in Indonesia. During 2016 -2018 , natural resources conflict reached 185 cases and involved of approximately 283,277 hectares in more than 100 villages. The highest position of land conflict occurred in the palm oil plantation sector . One obstacle to Scale Up in conflict resolution efforts is the limited human resources that have mediation capabilities and have not been certified.
- We will increase mediator quality and quantity through the certified examinantian and training - Participants are expected to be able to understand the material about the flow of negotiation and mediation in dealing with natural resource conflicts. - Mediators are able to mediate on natural resource conflicts that occur in their territory.
Scale Up's experience on conflict resolution to natural resources conflict in the Industrial Forest Concession (HTI) & palm oil plantations through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) has received appreciation from the public and companies. Until 2018, 18 cases were settled peacefully & the agreed land settlement was above 50,000 hectares. Through our certified mediator program, local people can access local mediators to mediate and negotiate their problems on their land.
