Build a Youth Community Center to Empower Girls

before we build the actual center we have been looking at expanding the project into the other communities and one of the communites is Linda South Community. The Girl Impact interns/volunteers have been working with the Linda South girls for 6 weeks now.

We see them every Tuesday and Friday for the girl impact program and farming. We’ve had to adapt the GI program slightly for them due to lower levels of English compared to the other schools we work with, but they’re now starting to make good progress. Some of the lessons we’ve had with them include; teamwork, gender and gender roles, self esteem, positive body image as well as additional English lessons.

We had our first farming lesson with them last week and we had a great turn out! They took home several eggplants each which they picked that morning from Linda Farm.

They’re our fun group! They were all quite shy especially with speaking English the first few weeks but they’ve now really come out of their shells! All the girls get along brilliantly and they all LOVE to sing and dance. They teach us new songs every week. We’ve already seen a huge change in their self confidence and we’re excited to continue to watch it grow.
