Dear Supporters,
Our dream of a youth community centre is still alive and well. We cannot wait to open its doors to young people so they can access education support and health workshops and girls can have a safe space to learn about reproductive health and gender equality.
The process of building a new community centre on our land is lengthy! Seven government departments, the city council, and other governance groups must be consulted and give their approval, both in Livingstone and some departments in the capital, Lusaka.
So you know where we are on our journey…. We are almost at the finish line! So far, we have;
- Purchased the land
- In partnership with Urban Think Tank, designed the 1st phase of the centre
- Received provincial approval for change of use (from agriculture to community)
- Obtained building plan and construction approval
We are still to;
- Get city council approval – expected in early November
- Obtain a final building permit
- Build the foundations before the rainy season hits in early December
We will celebrate with you and the Livingstone community when we reach the finish line and start building our foundations. Then, we will embark on a new journey to build a centre that is as valuable as possible for young people to learn, dream big and thrive!
