The Girl Impact land

By Memory Mundia | Project Coordinator

The dream of the Girl Impact community centre is slowly coming true.

What are we doing about it? Purchase of the land where the community center we will be built. The land has current structures that we will be used right away when we are still raising more funds for actual Centre.

Renovations – Build a wall around the existing structure, install a blackboard, Mats renovate the toilets, storeroom.

Start running the lessons at the new GI Centre- This will house women & girls from both Linda and Sakubita communities.

Build an Eco Compost bin & Benches around the trees.

Wire fence – For a proper boundary and security purpose.

Why do we need the community Centre?Currently the classes are held under a tree which is not a very ideal place for some of the lessons that need privacy and not suitable environment under harsh conditions like rainy and winter seasons.Once the center is built it will house a lot of different activities, tailoring workshops, computer workshops, career workshops etc.

This also means that we will nolonger have cancellation of projects as we will have full control of the place. Before if the school is closed due to no water we couldn’t hold any lessons.

We are looking at doing different kinds of Income Generating Activities with both women and girls.

Women- Chitenge bag making, chitenge outfits, Jewelry making. The funds raised will be able to assist pay for school fees for example.

Girls -  Gardening- sell of seedlings, vegetables, chickens, Eggs. the vegetables from the farming phase will be used to feed the girls regular and nutritious meals. This will improve their health, provide an opportunity to teach them new cooking skills, nutrition knowledge, and give them a sense of self-competency. The remaining ones will be used as Income generating activity. The other IGA will be used I the running of  the community center.
