Closing the education gap closes the opportunity gap - opening up paths to brighter futures in Niger. This project funds construction at the Agadez Learning Center for Rural and Nomadic students in Niger, including: - a girls dormitory (sleeping and living space for 25 girls and constructed to allow for second story expansion) - 4 girls bathrooms & showers - reinforcement for the boys dorm to allow for 2nd story expansion - storehouse for dry food goods. Give today to help make a difference.
Niger is ranked at the bottom of the UN's Education Index. It is rare for rural and nomadic students to complete primary school, much less continue to secondary school. In part, this is because many communities do not have a secondary school located in the surrounding villages and city schools are often too far away. The Agadez Learning Center promotes equitable access to education among under-served groups including girls, ethnic minorities, and students from nomadic communities.
We lack the infrastructure for the Agadez Learning Center to accommodate more students. We have the space but not the living quarters, bathrooms, or food storage facilities necessary for safe, healthy expansion. The construction will allow for a greater number of girls to be housed at the center and ensure better health and hygiene through improved bathroom, food storage facilities, and reliable water access. These efforts will ensure both dorms are built to allow for future expansion.
This construction will set the center up to welcome an additional 25-75 students/year in the coming years which will provide for hundreds of additional students over time. As we can accommodate more secondary school students, we can support a greater number of rural communities to develop a strong educational pipeline and connect students to high school and professional opportunities.
