Investing in Our Capacity to Better Serve Survivors

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Thank you for believing in Girl Concern Org and in the potential of survivors of gender based violence to become confident leaders and changemakers in their communities. Your encouragement and continued interest in our work inspires us to keep moving forward, even during periods when funding is limited.

Since January, our project has not received new donations through GlobalGiving. While this has slowed the implementation of our planned activities, it has not diminished our commitment to empowering girls and young women in Garissa County.

One important milestone during this reporting period was our participation in the Economic Justice Rights (EJR) Training on the Care Economy by Un Women. The training strengthened our understanding of how unpaid care responsibilities affect women and girls and provided practical approaches for advocating for more inclusive economic opportunities and leadership for young women. The knowledge and partnerships gained through this experience will help us design stronger, more responsive leadership programmes for the girls we serve.

Although financial constraints have limited our ability to conduct community activities at the scale we envisioned, we have continued planning, learning, and building the organizational capacity needed to deliver greater impact once funding becomes available. We remain committed to creating safe spaces where girls can develop leadership skills, build confidence, and become advocates for positive change in their communities.

To everyone who has supported us in the past—thank you. Your belief in our mission has brought us this far, and we are deeply grateful.

Warm greetings from Girl Concern, and heartfelt appreciation to you and our partners at GlobalGiving. Your generous support has been more than financial assistance — it has been encouragement, hope, and a powerful reminder that communities across the world stand together to protect and empower girls and young women.

Thanks to your support, we successfully carried out several important activities aimed at strengthening the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), particularly the growing threat of online and digital violence. One of our key achievements wasbeing part of a joint stakeholder advocacy initiative that brought together community leaders, youth representatives, service providers, and civil society partners. During this engagement, we increased awareness about the different forms of GBV, with a special focus on digital spaces where girls are increasingly exposed to harassment, cyberbullying, exploitation, and online abuse. These discussions helped community stakeholders better understand emerging risks and encouraged them to take a more active role in prevention and response.

Additionally, we made significant progress in strengthening access to justice for survivors. Our team took part in submitting a memorandum to the court advocating for the prioritization and fast-tracking of GBV-related cases. Survivors often face long delays that discourage reporting and prolong trauma. Through this submission, urgent need for timely justice and improved survivor-centered court processes was highlighted. We are encouraged by the positive reception of this advocacy effort and remain hopeful that it will contribute to more efficient handling of GBV cases.

Your support also enabled us to sustain our organizational operations by contributing to staff salaries. This ensured that our dedicated team remained actively engaged in delivering services, coordinating advocacy activities, supporting survivors, and maintaining community outreach. Behind every successful activity is a committed team working consistently to ensure vulnerable girls and young women receive the protection and support they deserve.

Because of you, conversations about GBV are growing louder, communities are becoming more aware, and systems are gradually becoming more responsive. While challenges remain, your partnership allows us to continue building safer environments for girls both offline and online.

Restoring Dignity Through Safe Shelters for GBV Survivors

Over the past few months, our team has taken a major step forward in our mission to restore hope, safety, and dignity to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). Thanks to your support, we are continuing to build shelters for survivors of female genital mutilation.

These shelters provide more than a roof — they offer a place of security. Survivors receive support, basic needs, and a community that listens and cares. Young women are regaining confidence and finding pathways to rebuild their lives through counseling, skill training, and small business support.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are geared toward building meaningful relationships with more donors and partners who share our vision of a world free from violence. With your continued partnership, we can expand our reach, strengthen our recovery programs, and ensure every survivor has a chance to heal in safety and dignity.

Every contribution — no matter the size — brings us closer to a future where no woman or girl lives in fear.

In the coming months, our focus will shift toward enhancing sustainability within the shelters. We plan to introduce livelihood programs that allow survivors to gain financial independence, such as tailoring, beadwork, and small-scale farming. By doing so, we empower them not only to survive but to thrive — turning recovery into renewed purpose and leadership within their communities.

We are also working to strengthen local partnerships with community leaders, health centers, and law enforcement agencies to ensure that survivors receive holistic and coordinated care. These collaborations will help us extend the impact of our work beyond the shelter walls, addressing the root causes of GBV and promoting long-term community transformation.
