This project aims to make mangrove replenishment on the coastal and reforestation on the continent to help 149,833 inhabitants in the Marracuene District in Mozambique, affected by the effects of climate change that heavily plague the coastal zone of the Mozambique channel, with some 1,600 km in length and 419 km in length. diameter. These events, in addition to displacing populations, cause erosion, flooding, saline intrusion and strong gales.
Marracuene District, as well as most regions of Mozambique, it is plagued by several natural phenomena that contribute to the degradation of the environment causing erosion, characters, floods, drought, devastating large properties of forest species existing and due to a lack of environmental education , the local population does not value marine species (mangrove) and forestation. However, some of these are consequences of natural phenomena, but others are the result of human action.
It will be resolved through the promotion of environmental education, capacity building and awareness of communities on good environmental practices, as well as the implementation of activities to protect the coastal area against erosion, reforestation of desert areas, such as mangrove planting and reforestation of the coast. Furthermore, these activities, in addition to protection, will also guarantee the generation of income for communities through fishing and beekeeping in the mangrove.
This project consists of building resilience to climate change, in the long run it will guarantee the coastal protection of the Mozambique Channel, which is about 1,600 km long and 419 km in diameter, it will prevent erosion and reinforce forestry on the coast. Furthermore, it will contribute to the generation of self-employment, increased income, as well as ensuring food security for communities.
