The 200 Tablets will help Digital learning for poor Maasai Girls and Boys in Maasai manyattas neighboring the famous Masai Mara National Park. Schools in Kenya are closed due to Covid-19 with pupils required to undergo e-learning at home but lack suitable mobile phones, TVs, Radio, and internet. This disadvantages the maasai pupils and the project aim at ensuring the maasai are not left behind in education. Kenya Little League teach Little League baseball which will also benefit.
The Maasai girls and boys are from poor rural background in Narok county who are not receiving digital learning as required by the Ministry of Education during this period when schools are closed due to Covid-19. The project will ensure they are not marginalized any further as maasai-land already lags behind in education. The solar panels will provide the power required to charge the gadgets. We shall provide five trainers to the project for six months to ensure proper use.
Providing tablets will make available mobile technology in delivery of education content. The versatility of tablets makes a good choice as the children can easily move with them as the parents shift with their cattle in search of pasture. Digital learning will help close the gap for the maasai children and improve the education standards.
Kenya like the rest of the world is moving digital and cannot afford to have a community left behind in technological advancement. Already the Maasai are relatively behind in provision of education due to poverty and their semi-nomadic nature being pastoralists who move their expansive area in search of pasture.
