We need to purchase 18 Scott Air packs to replace our existing units that are coming to the end of their useful life. We are starting to see current air packs fail at a fire and have to be replaced (which could put a firefighter at risk of death. Newer packs have buddy system option that allows one firefighter low on air from another pack. We service over 60 sq mi. and pop of 20,000. Ball Corp is our largest facility. annual budget $90,000.00 from state, fund drives, grants. We can't afford.
Jenkins Twp Vol Fire Dept has a budget of $80,000.00 per year, up to $100,000.00 or more some years. We receive $28,000.00 from the state toward safety equipment. Our air packs are at the end of their useful life in 2027. Cost to replace them is $168,000.00. This purchase on credit would wipe out any other purchases for the next 6 years.
Any grant from Ball Corp which houses a large facility in our township will make sure that firefighters have the most up to date safety equipment. This will protect them in firefighting and hazmat situations.
We are currently saving to replace our 1989 Pierce ladder truck. If we have to use our savings from the truck fund to replace the air packs, it only puts the residents and businesses of the township even more at risk. grants like this ensure that we can continue to provide quality fire protection at a minimal cost for taxpayers
