Dear Friends and Supporters,
Thank you for your continued investment in maternal health in Haiti. We’re excited to share a brief update on our program's progress so far this year!
Program Results
We met or exceeded our targets in early prenatal care: first prenatal visits reached 1,194 against a target of 1,161 (103% of our goal), and first trimester visits came in at 563 against a target of 540 visits (104%). For postnatal consultations, we reached 80% of our targeted goal (229 of 288 visits). However, fourth prenatal visits and hospital deliveries fell short, at 67% and 41% of our targets, respectively — the latter remaining our most significant ongoing challenge.
Key Achievements
This quarter, our team expanded community outreach, strengthened clinical capacity, and deepened our support for vulnerable mothers. We conducted health education for women of reproductive age across all facilities and communities, continued running ten Mothers' Clubs network-wide, and promoted our affordable maternal care package (only 500 gourdes / ~$4 USD for comprehensive prenatal care). Our team also distributed food kits to pregnant women in Roche Plate, supporting proper prenatal nutrition.
We continued building program capacity, completing obstetric ultrasound training for two nurses and recruiting a new midwife to lead maternal health activities across the network. We also developed a curriculum for traditional birth attendants, established a cervical cancer early detection protocol, and submitted our eligibility form for Haiti's upcoming HPV vaccine program.
Challenges
Hospital deliveries remain our most pressing challenge, with results at 41% of our targeted goal. Cultural preferences and logistical barriers continue to discourage facility-based birth, and we are actively exploring new strategies to address this. We are also facing increased competition in Pignon, Limbé, and Port Margot, where other health institutions have entered our catchment zones and are offering inconsistent but free mobile clinic services, making community retention more difficult.
Looking Ahead
Despite these challenges, patient volume is growing, care for HIV-positive mothers and children continues uninterrupted, and C2C's reputation as a trusted maternal health provider keeps expanding. We are grateful for the support that makes this work possible.
With gratitude,
The Care 2 Communities Team
