Maternal Health Updates

By Shanna U. | Development & Communications Manager

Since its launch, the MH program has seen a surge in pregnant women utilizing its services. This program offers prenatal consultation, obstetric imaging, laboratory tests, and community services such as postnatal consultations and initial vaccinations for newborns. A diverse team comprising lab technicians, OBGYNs, maternal health nurses, midwives, and field agents delivers these services.

For a fee of 500 gourdes, pregnant women receive a comprehensive package at our maternal health facilities. This package includes ANC, laboratory tests, obstetric ultrasounds, and necessary medications.

Our MH program focuses on holistic, effective, and efficient care. We aim to provide care as early as the first trimester and maintain regular check-ins throughout the pregnancy. We direct them to hospital care for safe delivery during their fourth prenatal visit. We equip our patients with a thorough birth plan and proper education to achieve our goal: reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in the communities we serve.

In the third quarter of 2023, our five clinics saw 1779 pregnant women for their initial prenatal consultation and 265 for their fourth visit. The previous quarter recorded 590 initial consultations and 164 fourth visits for context.

Our retention methods largely hinge on comprehensive documentation of each pregnant woman's history to ensure precise and comprehensive care. Phone reminders, appointment reminders, home visits, and routine postpartum appointments help us keep track of our beneficiaries. We've also formed new partnerships to enhance our lab test offerings, elevating the care quality for pregnant women.

Notably, the MH program also integrates other vital services. It introduces women to our vaccination program for their newborns and provides access to family planning for those interested in modern methods.
