Challenge

Decades of underinvestment in school meal programs has led schools across the U.S. to rely on unhealthy ultraprocessed foods. Healthy, scratch-cooked school meals can help all kids soar. Nearly 30 million children eat school meals five days a week - that's more than half of all school-aged kids in the U.S. By making sure school meals are healthy and cooked from scratch using real ingredients, you can help tens of millions of kids feel better and succeed in and beyond the classroom.

Solution

One by one, we break down the barriers to scratch cooking in schools. We believe all schools can get cooking. But obstacles like limited budgets, undertrained staff, outdated kitchens, and unestablished local and regional food supply chains can get in the way. We use a systems-change approach to tackle these obstacles and offer school food professionals the tools, training, connections, and resources to successfully replace ultraprocessed foods with fresh, healthy, deli

Long-Term Impact

Investing in school food is investing in the future. When schools cook from scratch, they improve children's health and help them succeed academically, make meals that kids actually want to eat, strengthen and revitalize their local communities, protect the environment, and create meaningful employment opportunities.
