This project will build skills in baking, bakery management and other means of self-employment for 100 Youths in Western Uganda that have lost or been denied employment due to their perceived or real sexual orientation and gender identity.
Youths in Uganda are the most marginalized people in the country with government institutionalized homophobia that fuels hate and discrimination from the public. A baseline survey that was done in 5 districts of Western Uganda found that 85% are unemployed, 75% face multiple forms of discrimination and lack basic food and shelter while 45% are being denied accessibility to health services. This project will affect more than 100 youths at the grass roots level in Western Uganda
We will provide training in baking, bakery management and also hold empowerment camps that will teach the community creative self-employment skills.
The project will train 100 Youths in self-employment activities like baking and bakery management which will allow them to be self-sufficient and rise out of poverty and ultimately improve their well-being.
