Montecito, California has been devastated by mudslides, claiming lives and destroying homes. This is a complication resulting from the massive wildfires that raged just a few short weeks ago in Montecito and other areas around Los Angeles. When we think about disaster recovery, we tend to think about hunger, homes, and water. Diapers are an often overlooked, yet so crucial basic need. This fund will provide diapers and basic hygiene items at no cost to those devastated by wildfire and mudslide.
Wildfires & mudslides have caused mandatory evacuations, destroyed homes, and forced thousands to flee. These families are now staying in shelters, hotels, or with friends & family. Living in poverty, now amplified by wildfire and mudslide devastation, means many families just trying to survive are forced to choose between food & diapers.
Through provision of reusable, modern cloth diapers and sanitary feminine hygiene items, basic hygiene and dignity will be restored for women & children.
As our partner organizations in California continue to have their personal care needs solved, they are able to save funds and plan for future improvements in their care. This can mean adding educational programs, offering better healthcare, improved quality of food (more protein!) - all steps that set these women up for long term survival and productive members of society.
