Over 6,000 children in Bangladesh are expected to develop cancer per year, however only a quarter of those receive an accurate diagnosis. This can be attributed to low levels of & late diagnosis – a result of low levels of public awareness- inadequate access to healthcare and a lack of diagnostic equipment.

At World Child Cancer we want to live in a world where all children, regardless of situation, have equal and proper access to quality cancer care; with your continued support we can move one step closer to making that a reality.

In April 2024, the Paediatric Haematology & Oncology Society of Bangladesh hosted their 4th International Conference in Dhaka. World Child Cancer’s Director of Programmes, Joe Dixon, and World Child Cancer Programme Coordinator, Jewel Ahmed, actively participated in the event and was proud to unveil their support over the past years to develop Standardised Treatment Protocols for Common Childhood Cancers in Bangladesh.

In the same month, we also continued supporting Psychosocial Support activities. A major achievement was the successful coordination of Parents Awareness Meetings in the Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology at partner hospitals. Expert oncologists provided informative sessions to parents and caregivers of children with cancer during these meetings. Topics included guidelines on hygiene and nutrition measures to prevent possible infections among children undergoing treatment or in recovery.

These updates highlight the progress and impact of our work, and World Child Cancer is immensely grateful for your support in making these initiatives possible.
