Nigeria's population of 170 million requires at least 170 cancer centers according to the World Health Organization. Nigeria currently has 2. Our cancer treatment center will provide at least 6000 treatments a year in radiation and chemotherapy for cancer patients. Due to the fact that 50% of these patients are indigent they would have received minimal or no treatment at all which would have reduced their chances of survival.
About 80,000 people die from cancer annually in Nigeria and by 2030, 70% of the 13 million cancer deaths expected globally will be from low-middle income countries like Nigeria. There is urgent need for cancer centers that meet international standard of care whilst being efficiently run to ensure viability. In addition half of the cancer patients do not have any way of getting treatment due to their financial status
St. Cyril Foundation is going to reduce the number of cancer deaths by providing well-equipped facilities with trained staff to provide the most effective treatment plan that provides a sustained process of international standards of care from a group of healthcare specialists . Our first cancer center will provide chemotherapy and internal radiation therapy. Also St. Cyril will work with the numerous cancer non profit organizations in Nigeria to ensure all patients sent to us are treated.
St. Cyril wants to improve quality of care of the cancer patient in Nigeria, to prolong life and its quality. This cancer center is the start of what will become the first of many comprehensive cancer centers that will include chemotherapy, internal and external radiation therapy and surgery units. There will also be a robust data and research unit to improve on treatment of patients because credible data is available. We want to reduce the 80,000 cancer deaths by at least 10,000 annually.
