Dear Friend of ATC,
Thank you for supporting Carbon Credit for Humanitarian Solar Power. Your generosity continues to create direct climate impact while improving daily life for families in rural Guatemala.
Progress & Milestones
We have now reached 53 households with solar lighting systems and water filters—more than halfway toward our goal of 100 families.
That means 15 additional homes have been served since our last report.
As in prior installation rounds, priority has been given to families with young children and expectant mothers, in partnership with the Civil Association of Traditional Midwives of Chimaltenango (ACOTCHI).
Reaching Remote Communities
Many of these homes are located beyond drivable roads, requiring systems to be carried by hand into remote areas. These are often families with little or no access to outside support.
Even with these challenges, each installation brings lasting benefits: safe light at night, cleaner indoor air, reduced household fuel costs, and access to clean drinking water.
Environmental Impact
Each household solar lighting system avoids approximately 1 ton of CO2 emissions per year by replacing candles and kerosene lamps.
With 53 systems now installed, the project’s carbon impact continues to grow while creating immediate benefits for families.
This is a practical form of carbon offsetting—one that families can see and feel every day.
Ripple Effects in Families’ Lives
Your support is making a difference in practical, lasting ways:
— Health: Families no longer rely on kerosene lamps, reducing indoor smoke and harmful fumes
— Education: Children have reliable light for homework and reading in the evening
— Economic Opportunity: Women and families can use evening hours for weaving and other productive work
— Household Savings: Families continue to save about $5-6 per week by replacing kerosene and candles
— Community Resilience: Water filters help reduce waterborne illness in areas with limited infrastructure
Looking Ahead
With 47 households remaining to reach our goal of 100 families, we are continuing to prepare for the next phase of installations with local partners and Rotary Clubs.
Every additional home reached means healthier families, stronger communities, and measurable climate benefit.
Thank you again for making this work possible. Together, we are building a future with cleaner energy, healthier homes, and brighter opportunities for rural families in Guatemala.
With gratitude,
John Bottenberg
