Dear Friends and Supporters,
Thank you for your donations to support people living with dementia in Nigeria. Your generosity shows your compassion for some of the most vulnerable members of our society. However, we must share that the donation receieved so far not enough to kickstart the project.
Right now, across Nigeria, thousands of older adults with dementia face daily challenges without any support. Many are misunderstood by their own families, who may interpret their memory loss as spiritual punishment or madness. Without proper diagnosis or care, these individuals often live in unsafe conditions, unable to remember to eat or take medication. Their isolation and confusion continue unchecked while we wait for additional support.
Our project is designed to bring practical help directly to families. We have trained community health workers who can conduct memory screenings and home safety assessments. We have prepared simple memory aids and caregiver guides in local languages. We have identified volunteers ready to provide regular check-ins for the most vulnerable. But without adequate funding, we cannot begin this vital work.
The need grows more urgent each day. Without intervention, people with dementia will continue to face neglect, and families will struggle without guidance on how to provide proper care.
We are asking for your continued support to make this project possible. Your contribution can provide a home safety kit for someone who wanders, train a family member in proper care techniques, or ensure regular check-ins for an isolated elder.
With gratitude,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
