In order to best protect the children already in our care, the New Life Center was on an extended lockdown since the beginning of 2020. In December 2020, we were able to safely admit 4 children for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Thanks to our dedicated team and our generous NYF community, we've provided these new children with nutritious food, 24-hour nursing care, and antiretroviral treatment and prophylaxis treatment.
Since it was still difficult for other families and patients to come to the New Life Center in Kathmandu to receive their regular treatment, our staff organized outreach relief camps and met with patients needing care in their own villages. In just the first phases of these outreach camps alone, our team was able to conduct check-ups and offer nutrition relief packages to 50 children with HIV/AIDS.
The check-ups included comprehensive screenings and counseling services, and the relief packages included nutritious food as well as a hygiene kit containing soap, PPE, and dental care items.
We’re eager to continue this important work in 2021, and look forward to when our facilities are able to operate at full capacity again.
