During COVID lockdowns in Nepal, many families under the care of the New Life Center faced severe food shortages due to the economic results of the pandemic. In coordination with some of our partners—four local community-based NGOs working on HIV/AIDS among adults—NYF arranged a large nutritional intervention service for rural families living with HIV. This relief program served over 167 families across 7 districts, providing a nutritional relief package containing staples like rice, lentils, legumes, oil, eggs, and other items, as well as a hygiene kit to protect against COVID.
Nirmala*, a 27-year-old mother living with HIV in rural Nepal, commended these efforts. “Our family survives on daily wages, but after the lockdown, we have to stay home. We never get a meal big enough to fill our stomachs. Thank you, NYF, for providing food for us.”
Additionally, NYF field staff conducted nutritional screenings on 50 children during these deliveries, taking the time to provide nutritional counseling to mothers regarding ways they could increase the nutritional value of regular meals.
Thank you and dhanyabad for making all of this possible! We remain so grateful for support from friends like you.
