Your help is urgently needed to provide critical relief to families after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan, with tremors felt as far as Pakistan and India. CARE is already on the ground preparing for the relief effort.
A powerful earthquake struck northern Afghanistan on the afternoon of Monday, October 26th with tremors felt as far as Pakistan and India. Afghans in Kabul say it is the strongest earthquake they have experienced.
CARE is rapidly mobilizing to assist earthquake victims, especially the poorest of the poor with a focus on women and girls as well as internally displaced people in Afghanistan.
CARE is already responding to humanitarian needs in Afghanistan and Pakistan and is ready to scale up as more information on the impact of the earthquake is available. The situation is going to be much worse for poor and vulnerable people, particularly those who have been displaced by the conflict. Plus winter is starting and there has been a noticeable drop in temperature over the past few days, according to the CARE Country Director in Afghanistan.
