The project is aimed at creating a learning Center to provide quality and target learning to children with different learning disabilities(dyslexia, dysgraphia, autism) and Internally displaced Kids from Crisis affected areas in Cameroon.We aim at providing holistic learning that will improve the academic performance of these kids as well as help build-self Confidence and Self-Esteem.It will also serve as a reference center for teachers and parents to enhance awareness on learning disabilities.
2 out of every 5 children suffer from a learning disability.These children are often humiliated by their friends and often referred to as dull. kids with Autism and celebra palsy are sometimes related to witchcraft.Most teachers and parents are caught in the web as they can't really identify the specific disabilities nor know how to manage them.With the crisis in Cameroon since 2016 which resulted to the shutting down of schools,many children stayed at home which has pushed them to slow learners
Every year, 30 learners will be registered to the after school center. Using different teaching strategies and technological learning apps, we will teach kids based on the specific learning disorder.20 teachers each year be taught teaching strategies for kids with different learning disabilities (mentoring) and how to identify them. The project will enhance awareness of parents of learning disabled kids on these disabilities as well as equip them with teaching strategies for this kids at home
Identifying learning disabled at an early age save the risk of this children growing up to be psychologically. it is easier to build the self confidence and self esteem of kids at and early age. With much sensitizing, the stigma associated to learning disabilities will be reduced, children will gain more self esteem and children with normal intelligence will see the need to assist the learning disabled.
