Summary

The aim of the Careers Fair is to help our students focus on the world of work, begin to develop their ideas about employment and make important choices about their future. The Careers Fair will bring industry experts in contact with students from public and private schools, giving the youngsters more information on the different post-secondary options they have and industry experts an insight into the talent pool which will be available to them in the nearest future.

Challenge

In 2018, approximately 50% (i.e. 786,016) of the students who wrote the WAEC exams succeeded while the other 50% didn't. What happens to the 50% who did not succeed? What happens to our students when they are done with the senior secondary education? A lot of our students get stuck in a rut when they don't know what to do next. Life is even worse for them when they do not succeed at their WAEC and/or JAMB exams.

Solution

The Careers Fair will bring corporate organizations, professional bodies, and post-secondary institutions all together to speak with the youngsters. The aim of the program will be to widen the horizon of the students with regards to their post-secondary school opportunities and how to access them. They will also get to do Career Assessments and craft their career plans. Proper guidance and adequate information will prevent students from getting stuck not knowing what to do.

Long-Term Impact

The long term impact is the reduction of unemployment among our youth; our youth will grow up to become productive adults all contributing their quota to the development of our nation Nigeria
